Detasseling Application
(right click or control click)
All detasselers are required to bring a water jug to the field. This is essential to our process of bookkeeping. We will provide each detasseler with a hat (net attached), protective glasses, gloves and arm socks. Each detasseler is responsible for providing their own rain jacket or garbage bag to wear, comfortable walking shoes (we recommend tennis shoes), a healthy lunch/snacks, and a bandana to protect your neck. All new employees are trained the first day or two.
We normally begin our season the first part of July. Mother Nature determines when the corn is ready so we will not have a start date until approximately 3 days before our season begins. If you are hired to be on our crew, you will receive a letter stating that you have been hired. Those employees that are hired will receive an informational letter of required paper work meetings. You MUST have a photocopy of your driver's license or report card AND a photocopy of your social security card or birth certificate. These meetings will be held in May. Our crew generally fills up the first part of April. We put applications in the schools the middle of March. We base our hiring on many things including availability, age, height, and experience. Shortly after the season has ended we will pass out checks. The season can last anywhere from 14-21 days. We work EVERY day including Saturdays and Sundays.
